Chapter 3 (Part 2)- Tutorial is over! Time for the Real Quest
The first thing I did as soon as I sent Cassis to his room was to find out what had happened to Archduke Luwin’s family.
‘Yes, actually, I’ve been too busy paying off my debt.’
I didn’t even pay attention to the original story because I was so neglectful.
For me, the original story was only used to repay my debt.
For example, a mine will be discovered somewhere, and when that happens, the price of gold will plummet, and a ship will sink somewhere, and the price of wine in the islands will skyrocket…
I made full use of that information.
At first, I was worried about what would happen if the original work was changed.
But from the middle portion onwards, I felt that such things were none of my business.
What should I do when I have so much to repay?
But the result is the male protagonist’s bankruptcy.
‘Hey, system. Did you have to do that?’
[I didn’t do it, Irina did it.]
Still, does it make sense for the Archduke’s family to go bankrupt?
[So, Irina. Aren’t you going to check the tutorial rewards?]
‘See you later. I’m busy.’
I put aside the blinking system window that kept prompting me to check rewards and quests, and instead head to check the past newspapers again with Ijin.
It seems like it would be good to know at least some general information about the bankruptcy of Grand Duchy Luwin.
And after confirming the whole truth, I have no choice but to quietly bite my lip.
The grand duke’s bankruptcy has been going on for several years, and the current Grand Duke, Cassis, was trying to repay the debt.
But despite their efforts, the debt was enormous.
And that debt…….
‘Ahh, it’s because of me.’
[I did say that it was because of you!]
Wow. It’s not easy to fall like this.
They invested heavily in Ramals cigarettes, but the ship that brought them sank.
The original investor was a family that had a cooperative relationship with the Sheikh.
Knowing from the original story that the ship would sink, I decided that it would be better not to invest in this area. And it seems that it was Grand Duke Luwin who entered that industry instead.
‘And in relation to that, while the previous Grand Duke was on his way to Port Ferring to resolve the problem, he died in an accident where the magic power of the teleport gate was cut off.’
The Archduke uncle took over on behalf of the Cassis, who was still a minor.
[Irina. This isn’t Irina’s fault. You know?]
The system acted as if it was urgently trying to comfort me, but I had already kept my mouth shut.
I had no idea that the small, insignificant things I did would accumulate and lead to such a big problem.
What was it like in the original? At least the previous Grand Duke did not die like this.
In the end, because of me, Cassis lost his father and protector.
“Although the current grand duke inherited the title as soon as he became an adult, the debt was already astronomical, and mining of the magic stone mine, one of the major sources of income for the grand duke family, was prohibited due to a contract mistake made when his uncle was acting as deputy.”
(t/n: I am assuming that she is talking to her brother)
“Now, wait a minute. So, the Grand Duke’s family doesn’t even have much income from their territory right now?”
“Yes. Every good business they owned was either stolen by his uncle or completely destroyed.”
I messed up my hair.
I caused male lead to go bankrupt!
[That’s not it, you only gave that opportunity.]
I put Cassis in deep debt.
[That is not Irina, but Cassis’ uncle.]
Just because I wanted to pay off my debt, I caused the male lead to sell the information on the mine that he planned to invest in somewhere else! Same goes for Ramels cigarettes and the death of the previous Grand Duke!
I only touched on a really minor setting, but the male lead’s family was ruined.
“Aaaah, does this make sense?”
[Nothing can be done about it!]
[That’s right! That could only be the case!]
[Don’t worry too much! We are here!]
I sat down, shaking my head. Maybe this is good.
[Host! Now click ‘Accept’ on the quest!]
The current state of Grand Duke Luwin was very similar to the early days of Count Sheik’s bankruptcy.
However, the scale of the bankruptcy was only about two credits more than the debt owed by the Count Sheikh.
I opened the system window and looked through the tutorial quests I had previously completed. The hardships I have endured over the past five years passed me by.
[SYSTEM | Settlement has been completed! Please check the rewards and next quest!]
‘Yes, later.’
I was able to repay the debt because of the system, but the process was not easy at all.
There was once a truly despairing moment.
Even now, I will never forget the day when I felt completely hopeless as I didn’t have a single penny, and yet my debt was due immediately. If it weren’t for the benefactor who helped me back then, I would probably still be struggling in debt.
Even more than the fact that he went bankrupt because of me, I wanted to help Cassis if I could because I remembered the kindness being helped by someone at the worst moment.
But I couldn’t afford it at all.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t help it.”
Sheik also barely recovered from bankruptcy, but they want us to help Luwin. What can we do?
…
“Sorry. I cannot help it.”
When I turned my head, I watched Ijin organizing documents.
My younger brother, who is two years younger than me, returned home without graduating from the academy. He came back and said he was going to die with me. He is not even an adult yet.
I looked from his curly platinum-blonde hair that was just like mine, to his face, then to his slightly worn shirt.
Although it was clean and well-maintained by its wearer, there were many signs of wear and tear.
The pen in Ijin’s hand is also a slightly worn-out fountain pen that I gave as a gift out of my own savings.
In order to do his bit to help with the poor household, he collected data, studied, and filled out documents without letting the ink drying on his fingertips.
“Yes, I can’t help it.”
It’s more important for me to take care of my family right now.
The system didn’t respond.
“Miss, master, dinner is ready.”
Meanwhile, the head maid came to visit us.
“Oh, I’m going down!”
“Yes, we will send for the Archduke.”
“Yes, thank you.”
I shook my head and stood up.
I will treat him as kindly as possible and let him go quietly.
I didn’t want to get involved with debt anymore.
